On August 14, 1945, Japan announced its surrender, ending World War II in the Pacific with joyful celebrations worldwide.
In forty-five on August's fourteenth day,
Japan said peace and put the war away.
The world erupted in a joyful cheer,
No more the bombs or soldiers' fear.
From every street the happy crowds did sing,
A brand new era under freedom's wing.
