August 23 is the UN International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, honoring victims and promoting human rights.
On August twenty-third we pause and sigh,
For chains of old that made the world cry.
Abolition's spark lit freedom's flame,
Remembering the lost, we honor their name.
Through pain and hope, lessons we keep,
For justice to rise and never sleep.
