My life has surrounded invoices this year.
I’m working with invoices. For the salary I get, I pay invoices. That’s how it feels anyway.
Before my wife gave birth I have paid a total of nearly 20’000 SEK for the midwife meetings, ultrasound visits and so on, maybe I already wrote all that before.
But NOW I have an invoice of over 70’000 SEK for my wifes childbirth. It shocked me when we received it just a week ago and I still haven’t got clarity. But the more I dig down I feel it is wrong.
I have heard of similar situations, a normal vaginal birth from someone who isn’t holding a resident permit or citizenship to cost just around 35’000 SEK, I expected therefore it wouldn’t cost much more than that!
My wife and I went in the morning to the hospital at 8am, we got into the birth giving room or whatever called. At 3pm the same day she gave birth to our son. There were no complications whatsoever!
Then we did get a room we both stayed overnight without anyone of us needing or receiving care other than our Swedish citizen born son that the personnel checked up on and took tests.
So the next day we had to wait for another test they were going to do on our son and then we went home.
Now I’ve been trying to get more information about what this invoice includes, if it is truly correct. I have very good reasons to doubt it since it was a fairly quick flawless birth as well they had invoiced us for our sons meetings days later.
But so far the hospital has only been able to give me information that doesn’t tell me anything, I’ve received no journal or explanation to the expenses on what has cost so much if it’s true that other people told me to regard a birth giving half our amount!
It’s quite frustrating and it feels unfair to be forced to pay an invoice that I believe is wrong and that they won’t explain how the costs are.
All I got so far is a day it cost 12’800 SEK at hospital or similar and then some other fee onto that. As I understand they gave an example about 6 days that it would cost 90’000? Well as explained above we haven’t been there more than a day, or if they calculate two because we slept overnight – but that sure is an expensive ‘hotel’.
Regardless it feels like they have it wrong and I hope for them to fully check up with everything!
